The kindness project

The Kindness Project is a program designed to prompt Primary aged children to think more about how kindness impacts both their life and the lives of others.

The program will be guided by the teacher (or other relevant person), and is designed to be delivered over 5 consecutive weeks.

Over the 5 weeks, the program progresses from the simple reflection of kindness, through to the exploration of heroic and kind action as a way of life.

Topics covered over the 5 weeks:

  1. Kindness changes lives

  2. We all want to be happy

  3. Being mean is never cool

  4. We all have amazing qualities

  5. The hero within

The hope is that by raising the concept of kindness from the unconscious mind to the conscious mind, the  weekly reflections along with small daily actions, will develop the kindness muscle and compassion will become the default behaviour.

Each week begins with a 20-30 minute session that includes:

  • Introduction story or statement

  • Group questions

  • Activity

  • Reflection

Each of these components should take around 5 minutes.

Ideally this program would be delivered on Mondays and then followed by a daily question/prompt for the rest of the week, which is designed to build on the main session and cement the learnings.
